Currently our business model is streamlined for online tuition, so we have no intention of providing face-to-face tuition at the moment. This does not mean we will never look at face-to-face tuition but it is not something we will provide in the near future.
You can start at any point in the year, even during holiday times. Please note, during the holidays a lot of our tutors book time off and so you may not find a tutor instantly but you are free to book and at the next available time, a tutor will be assigned to you.
As of currently, as we are a small business, we only accept payments via bank transfer and PayPal. We will be looking to incorporate Swift/Stripe and other credit/debit card transaction platforms in the near future. You do not pay for each lesson, but instead are invoiced a bill at the end of the month for your sessions. The payment information can be found on the bottom of the invoice. Tutors do not collect fees on behalf of AZ Tuition. We collect on their behalf, and we pay them.
All sessions are at least 1 hour, as we feel this is a good amount of time to engage learning. We actually do not recommend longer than 1 hour sessions. This is because this can be very counter productive when it comes to learning and could initiate information overload. We are not a money making machine and wish to ensure students and carers are getting the most out of the tuition. If you still insist on longer than 1 hour sessions, we recommend a break of at least 10 minutes between the sessions. However, these 10 minutes will be accounted for in the session charge for the tutor as this will be "trapped time" for them.
As of currently, the best way to find out about your child's progress is to ask the tutor directly. However, on a lesson by lesson basis, a proforma is filled out of the discussions and activities of that lesson, with any applicable grades or formative assessment outcome. This can be tracked every lesson to see the progress of your child and any issues or concerns can be raised after the lesson.
Compatibility between tutor and student is crucial to ensuring students learn and make progress. Our tutors are vetted for their high standards in teaching but also as professionals but sometimes certain students require a certain personality of tutor, and that is OK. We will do our best to facilitate another tutor for the student if the need arises.
Life sometimes has plans of its own and sometimes requires us to move things around. We ask that when you book your recurring slot, you pick a day and time that, to the best of your knowledge, remains uninterrupted. If cancellations do need to take place, your tutor should be informed by written communication (email, text, whatsapp etc.) no less than 24 hours in advance of the start time of the session. This will be a no charge event. If cancellations are made less than 24 hours in advance, this will incur the usual charge for the session.
Rearrangements are at the discretion of the tutor. If rearrangements do need to take place, your tutor should be informed by written communication (email, text, whatsapp etc.) no less than 24 hours in advance of the start time of the session. If they are happy to rearrange to a suitable time for both student and tutor, this will incur no charge. If the tutor cannot rearrange (and they are not obliged to as tutors are busy professionals) then this will be treated like a normal cancellation. If over 24 hours notice given, no charge will be incurred, but if within 24 hours then the session fee will have to be paid.
No! Provided you let your tutor know in advance, you are free to book time off for a holiday. Unlike other companies, we do not charge you whilst you are on holiday.
You are not obliged to have your webcam on during the session, however we strongly recommend it. Research has shown that we learn better from facial cues and expression, aided with vocals more than vocals alone. At the end of it, the right environment for learning will make it easier to do the learning.
All staff at AZ Tuition have provided an up-to-date DBS certificate on file or are enrolled in the DBS update service which automatically updates their DBS.
